Financial Sentiments

Inauguration Post?

By Nicholas Haberling

I have returned. Not to the war swept beaches of the Philippines but to the joy of writing. It has been nearly four years since I’ve written anything substantial for Nerd Econ and over a year since I sent an article to the local journal of business. I have plenty of excuses for my absence, but none of them very good. The most abused excuse being, “I don’t have time.” This is an excuse that is just as deadly in writing as it is in physical fitness. The connection being that writing and fitness are skills that atrophy the more you don’t use them. If you miss one week it’s not the end of the world, but if you miss the second week you start to develop negative inertia. You feel a little more tired during the run you finally got to, the plates start to feel too heavy, and it takes longer to string sentences together. Eventually the effort doesn’t seem worth it and you stop trying altogether.

So what brought me back? The normal selfish reasons. I enjoy writing, do a lot of reading (expect book commentaries), and like most people I do engage in some critical thinking. What I have learned is that most ideas are bad or to be charitable, difficult to communicate, if you don’t write them out beforehand. What seems straight forward to our web of firing neurons is incredibly non-linear and confusing when typed out. And since I enjoy communicating ideas and writing this seems like a natural place to get back in the swing of things.

This brings us to the big change. In order to ensure our security and continuing stability, Nerd Econ will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire for a safe and secure society! The secure society part isn’t accurate, but Nerd Econ is being rebranded into Financial Sentiments. Instead of discussing galactic economies I will be focusing more on financial planning, investment management, and all the topics in between. There will still be a legacy part of the website devoted to the old Theorycraft posts but those will be few and far between.

Hopefully if you’ve stuck around this long you have frantically entered your email address into the subscription bar below. We have some fun content coming up over the next couple of weeks. Come for the information, but stick around for the Star Wars references.
